
ONGOING MAINTENANCE
With a slanted hipped roof, quoins at the corners of the walls, moulding around the windows, eaves and double verandas. One veranda was added later by the Mayor B.F. James. The veranda is currently under going maintenance. The gateposts are attractive. The splendid staircase has two welcoming arms. Whitehall was the site of many high-society functions. The property includes a basement level that was used as slave quarters until abolition of slavery in 1834 and includes a lookout tower on the southeast corner.

In the 1970’s the property was converted into 5 apartments and is a private residence. Whitehall was purchased by Rev. Dr. Erskine C Simmons (Erskine Simmons (1933-2024): activist, unionist and pastor - The Royal Gazette | Bermuda News, Business, Sports, Events, & Community |) from the Outerbridge family in early 1980’s and he lived in the property from 1988 (with his first wife Marie and then second wife Michelle) until his passing in 2024. The property remains in his family and repairs are ongoing.
